HIGH-LINE NYC

  1. I particularly like the last diagram where native habitats are recreated and help segment the park. The different environments define the amount of open plaza, or width of pathway. Having visited a few times, there is a nice variety of spaces, moving from open meadows - allowing for citywide views and a more social atmosphere, to small forests where the park feels more intimate and secluded. While I've spent time on the surface of the park, I have not spent much at ground level - I wonder how much the designers though about reactivating the ground level below the park structure.

  3. High Line park is unique in that it converted an abandoned railroad into a park elevated above the city. It also serves as a connection between Manhattan's west side. Walking through the park you notice some traces of its old predecessor. I feel more reuse projects should constructed not only is it more economical it helped turn a slummy area of the city into hip and high end.
