Steve Holl Kiasma (Kyle Ozycz)

Kiasma 1993-1998

-Kiasma Is a Contemporary art museum located on Mannerheimintie, Finland.
-Steve Holl Concept is described in the buildings name.
-Its purpose was to make contemporary art better known and strengthen its status.

Its name kiasma also known as chiasma is the basic conceptual idea of Steve Holl's design. This was initially confusing to me at first but after further research it became a little more clear. The definition of chiasma: Anatomy A crossing or intersection of two tracts, as of nerves or ligaments. In the picture below you can clearly see an intersection of two sections of the building.

Seve Holl carries out this concept of intersections throughout the project by using sweeping geometry walls and hallways. Throughout the interiors of kiasma Steve Holl avoids sharp curves giving his spaces a flowing feeling. In one of his rooms he converted one of the studio spaces into a skateboard park; this to me reflects his efforts of constructing a building with crossing intersections.
